The coconut tree is closely associated with the Vietnamese countryside. Not only does it provide shade along village paths, but it also brings many economic, practical, and health benefits to the people. Especially its fruit, with its rich nutritional content, it has many surprising effects.

INTRODUCTION TO COCONUT FRUIT

The coconut is scientifically known as Cocos nucifera L., belonging to the Arecaceae palm family. It is a single-stemmed tree, which can grow up to 30m tall, with a straight trunk. The leaves are large, single, pinnate, and concentrated at the top of the trunk. The foliage is thick and dense. The leaf stalks and main veins are 4-6m long. Auxiliary leaves usually form a mesh-like structure wrapped around the trunk. The flower clusters are located on leaf axils. On the same inflorescence, male flowers are positioned above, while female flowers are below.

The fruit is a drupe, with a shiny green smooth outer husk, prominently displaying 3 ridges. The middle layer of the fruit husk consists of fibers. Inside is the inner fruit husk, also known as the coconut shell or coconut husk. The inner fruit husk becomes woody and has three germination holes, also known as "eyes". Inside is the flesh layer, also known as the meat, which is white and is the edible part of the seed.

BENEFITS OF COCONUT FRUIT

Boosting the immune system

Coconut water contains a blend of B vitamins, averaging 5%. It reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases, prevents beriberi due to a lack of vitamin B1. With vitamins B3 and B5, it helps lower cholesterol and triglycerides, enhances the nervous system, and fights against infectious agents. Additionally, it contains vitamins C, E, enhancing immunity for the body. Moreover, pure coconut oil is reported to increase white blood cells, lymphocytes B and T, helping to regulate immunity.
